Chester Bennett, 86, of St. Paul, formerly of the Elba and Cotesfield areas, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas G. Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in the Cotesfield Cemetery at Cotesfield.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bennett was born on Dec. 10, 1916, at Cotesfield to Levi and Christina (Jensen) Bennett.

Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ken of St. Paul, Dennis and Arjean of Hoskins, Allen and Delores and Keith and Judy, all of Palmer; two daughters and a son-in-law, Eleanor Piskorski of Ord and Norma and Tom Kozisek of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Lela Marshall of Idleyld Park, Ore.

Survivors also include 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bennett was raised in Howard County. He received his education in a country school west of Cotesfield. After his schooling, he worked on the family farm and also on a farm near North Loup.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Warner on March 20, 1940, in Ord. He worked for a farmer west of Ord for one year. The couple farmed in Greeley, Howard and Sherman counties for 53 years. His wife, Ruth, died on March 3, 1992.

He enjoyed playing cards and attending cattle sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; two brothers, Harry and Harold Bennett; and three sisters, Helen Gydesen, Esther Bennett, and Ethel Moravec.
