Actor. Following National Service, he studied Acting at the Old Vic Theatre School in London and began his professional career on stage in a production of "Henry V" in 1952. He went on to experience an extensive career in a wide range of plays in both his native Birmingham followed by London. He gravitated to British radio and TV which resulted in his being cast as what was perhaps his best known role of 'Dave Robbins' in the long running serial "Coronation Street" (1963 to 1969). Additionally, he played 'Harold Chorley' in the popular TV program "Doctor Who" (1968). Among his other TV credits include "The Avengers", "Secret Agent", "Softly, Softly" and "Z Cars". Additionally, he appeared in the film "Freelance" (1971). During the 1970s, he turned to writing and penned several episodes of the series "Crossroads".
