Sen. Lewis suffered a heart attack Sunday evening at 6:35, while at home with members of his family. He spoke of pain in the region of his heart and immediately passed away. He had been in comparatively good health up to that time.
Senator Lewis, who was born in Alabama and who came with his parents to Navasota when very young, was in his 65th year. He is survived by Mrs. Lewis, one son, Henry L., Jr., who was associated in the practice of law with his father, one brother, A. W. Lewis of Navasota, and two sisters. They are Mrs. Fannie Woodruff of Decatur and Miss Quincy J. Lewis of Paradise.
Fellow citizens had honored Sen. Lewis with a number of offices. He was elected to the state senate in 1920, serving two terms. He had been mayor of Navasota, and at the time of his death was city attorney. He had been active in Masonry and was a Shriner and a member of Arabia Temple at Houston. Active in church, he was chairman of the board of deacons of the Baptist church at Navasota and had been moderator of the Creath-Brazos Association.
Educated as a youth in the public schools of Navasota, Sen. Lewis later attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and won his degree in law from the University of Texas."
