Sara P. (Baker) Carpenter, 86, of Crestwood and Effingham passed away peacefully at home Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Funeral services will be noon Friday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham. Sara was born July 14, 1923, in Sigel, the daughter of Earl C. and Hester (Wolf) Baker. She married Charles L. Carpenter Nov. 19, 1942, in Chicago. Sara was a homemaker. She is survived by her brothers, Paul (wife, Wilma Jean) Baker of Lodi, Calif., Floyd (wife, Mary) Baker of Teutopolis, Lowell T. (wife, Joan) Baker and James Curtis (wife, LoElla) Baker, both of Effingham, Vernon (wife, Marlene) Baker and Arthur (wife, Ruth) Baker, both of Sigel, Donald (wife, Joan) Baker of Neoga and Norman (wife, Leona) Baker of Hidalgo; sisters, Loretta Tegeler of Effingham and Bonnie Baker of Sigel; and several nieces and nephews. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
