United States Army General. A 1939 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Lieutenant Davison spent most of the pre-World War Two period assigned to the 12th US Cavalry. With the arrival of World War Two, Major Davison was assigned to the 45th Infantry Division. In 1944, he was given command of 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he remained in the Army, and in 1958, he graduated from the National War College. In 1963, now Brigadier General Davison was appointed the 51st Commandant of Cadets at West Point. In 1970, Lieutenant General Davison was sent to Vietnam where he commanded the United States Second Field Force. That same year, he received orders to plan and carry out what would become the highly controversial move of invading Cambodia to eliminate North Vietnamese hideouts in the country. In 1971, he was promoted to four star General and named Commander-in-Chief, US Army, Europe (CINC, USAREUR), which he held until his retirement in 1975. Over his career, he was awarded numerous medals and honors including the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the French Croix de Guerre, and the Meritorious Service Award from the NAACP.
