I OBITUARY
Timothy Marvin Stevenson, the oldest of five children, was born on March 19, 1967 at Mount Ayr, IA to Elmer and Phyllis J. Barth Stevenson. Tim often said his brother, John, was a better football player because of all the "toughening up" that Tim gave him, and James was the toughest because Tim couldn't make him cry. A 1985 graduated of Lamoni High School, Tim had already developed his love for horses, cows, and rodeoing.
Tammy Wallace wanted to ride Tim's horse at a county fair and they struck up a conversation. He later told friends that she chased him all over the fair until she caught him. On October 4, 1985 Tim and Tammy were married in Arkansas City, KS. To this union were born two sons, Trent and Trevor.
Tim attended welding and horseshoeing schools, was a Feed Mill Manager at the Farmer's Coop in Caldwell where he had worked for 15 years. Tim's passion was team-roping. He spent many hours in the arena, roping, breaking horses, and sharing stories. He also was a volunteer fireman with the Caldwell Fire Department.
Described as a gentle giant, Tim was fearless ... except for snakes. He was patient, teaching his boys and others to ride and rope. When they had a houseful of Boys, Tammy would be chasing the boys with a fly swatter and entreating Tim to help her. The boys ( ......) until Tim got up and they quickly scattered. Tim's snoring was legendary and he could carry on conversations in his sleep to the boys' amusement. His determination slipped over into stubbornness as evidenced by battles with an old truck with which no one else would bother, and his breaking of horses that others said were impossible.
Tim was a good listener and a proud father who was devoted to kids, his won and other. He helped coach, at least from the sidelines. He was quite good at archery, a good shot and loved to hunt. A night owl who could be difficult to awaken, Tim enjoyed playing tricks on family and friends and perhaps with less enjoyment, having tricks played on him. Tim had a big heart and big hands and gave wonderful teddy bear hugs.
Sunday morning, February 5, 2006, Tim died in the emergency room of Sumner County District #1 Hospital in Caldwell, KS, a little over a month before his 39th birthday. He and Tammy had celebrated 20 years together.
Tim was preceded in death by his Grandmother Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy, and sons, Trent and Trevor, of Caldwell; his parents, Elmer and Diana Stevenson, and P.J. and R.J. Gleason, and grandparents, Duane Stevenson and Opal and Marvin Barth, all of Lamoni, IA; three brothers and their wives, John and Angie Stevenson of Lamoni, James and Ronee Stevenson of Independence, MO, and Tom Stevenson of Lamoni; and one sister and her husband, JoAnna and Greg Clapham of Columbia, NE.
Besides his extended family, Tim is also survived by many children of the heart, rather than by blood, and lots of friends and coworkers.

Funeral services were held February 8, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Caldwell, Kansas with the Rev. Jan McDaniel officiating. Graveside services were held February 9 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa with Rev. Jan McDaniel officiating. Arrangements were made by Day Funeral Home of Caldwell.
Memorials have been established with the Tim Stevenson Scholarship Fund at Caldwell H.S. and the Lamoni, Iowa Alumni Fund.
