David Dorsey, 85, of Fowler died February 8, 2016 at IU Arnett. He was born July 1, 1930 to the late Lawrence and Catherine Dropsey (later changed to Dorsey). He attended Purdue University where he met his future wife, Helen Skoog, who he was married to for more than 50 years when she passed in 2006.

Dave served in the Army in Alaska where he quickly moved through the ranks to corporal. His first child Marcia was born in Alaska. After the service he moved back to Lafayette where he worked for Montgomery Ward and Sears. Dave and Helen had two more children, Denise and Mark. In 1960 they moved to Fowler and bought the Hardware Store, Dave worked at Dorsey Hardware right up to his death.

Following the blizzards of the late 70's, he saw the need and formed the Benton County Disaster Team, later became Civil Defense/EMA. It was widely recognized as one of the best units in the state. Dave received many commendations. He was very involved in the community. He served as past president of Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in the Rotary Club, American Legion Post 57, and Masonic Lodge. Throughout his life he received many awards, including the George Award, Sagamore of the Wabash, and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. All who knew him said he brought so much to the town. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by a daughter, Marcia (the late Bert James), daughter-in-law, Mika (Mark Dorsey), grandchildren, Sarah (Guillaume), John (Katie), Mitchell (Courtney), Michelle (Damien) and 6 great-grandchildren. Also 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Helen, daughter Denise (Jeff) and son Mark (Mika), Bert James which was also considered a son-in-law. Also his parents, 1 sister, and 1 brother.

He enjoyed dancing, NASCAR, and Indy car racing. The Hardware Store and his precious family were the most important in his life. Visitation and funeral service were February 13, 2016 at Windler Funeral Home, Fowler.
