George D. Butler, Jr., 84, loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Surrounded by his loving family, the most important part of his life, he went on to be with the Lord. George was a devoted family man and will be missed greatly by his loved ones and friends.

George was in the fire protection business from 1945 until he retired in 2003. He founded Fire Protection Systems, Inc in 1981 while residing in Sandy Springs and moved the company to Cumming in 1985. George was one of the most respected men in his field, in part due to his knowledge and understanding of the business but also because of his integrity. He was a Mason and served in the Navy as a Seabee for two years. George's life was a testimony to love, friendship and honor. George and Peggy worshipped at Cumming First United Methodist Church where they were members of the Sorta Fifties Class.

George is survived by his precious wife of 64 years, Peggy Milam Butler; daughter, Cindy Butler Lamb and her husband Michael; son, Trey (George D. Butler III) and his wife, Penny; and much-loved grandchildren, Devon Lamb, Andrea Butler, Jordan Lamb and Jacob Butler.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 3:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cumming First United Methodist Church.
