Wanda Oliver Thornton, 73, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at her home after an extended illness.

The Wayne County, Georgia native was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was a Wayne County High School 1960 Graduate. She was an entrepreneur of several successful businesses as well as giving back to the community by being a foster parent and a caregiver for many.

She was predeceased by her parents, Vird H. and Annie Lou Thompson Oliver; grandson, Kristopher Kyle Fossett; daughter, Shanda Chantillee Thornton; brothers, J. W. McClain and Robert Oliver; sister, Dessie Sapp.

Survivors are her loving husband of 22 years, Ben Thornton of Jesup; daughters, Lisa Cook and Pam Dunegan of Cartersville, Dana Fossett of Jesup, and Renee (Jeff) Edmonston of Wagram, North Carolina; son, Shane (Holly) Thornton of Lufkin, Texas; brothers and sisters, Carlton Oliver, Dale and Glenn Franklin, Wilton and Linda Oliver, Hilton and Kathy Oliver, all of Jesup, Nell and Buddy McReady of Screven; grandchildren, Billy Jack Parker of Acworth, Brance Allen of Canton, Nicole Lipsey of St. Simons Island, Nikki (Shawn) Bloomer and Whitney Cook of Kennesaw, Macey Bordelon of Jesup, Jeffery Edmonston of Wagram, North Carolina, Jacob and Riley Thornton of Lufkin, Texas; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Manning and Rev. David Bohannon officiating. Graveside will follow in Thompson Family Cemetery off Hwy. 169 in Jesup. Active pallbearers will be her nephews, Norman Franklin, Carlton McReady, Wayne, McKenzie, Larry, Shane and Nicklas Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Georgia Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Thompsons Cemetery in care of Dale Franklin, 520 Cameron Road, Jesup, GA 31545.
