Douglas David Schmitz, 65, of Houston, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016. Doug was born on Oct. 29, 1950, in Kenosha, Wis.

Doug grew up in Kenosha, Wis. He attended St. James Elementary School where he served as an alter boy. He later graduated from Tremper High School and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in business administration. Doug moved to Houston over 30 years ago and worked as a General Contractor. His company, Heavenly Works, remodeled homes and apartment complexes in the Houston area. Doug was a devout Catholic and a devoted, caring husband and father who had a strong work ethic. He was a very personable man with a gregarious and friendly personality. He always had a smile, was a gracious host, and the first person to help someone in need.

Doug is survived by his wife, Ann (Van Liew) Schmitz; mother, Esther Falcone; daughters, Alison (Justin) Aubuchon and Molly McCormick; brother, Martin (Patricia) Schmitz; and sisters, Mary (Erik) Prentnieks, Dorothy McPhaul and Maureen (Gary) Sagui.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Schmitz and son, Luke McCormick.

A Vigil/Rosary service for Doug will be held Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister Drive, Woodland Trails North, Houston, TX 77040. A reception will follow the service on the church grounds. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Ronald McDonald House at 1907 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.
