He was a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Golden Boys Club as well as a Church Elder. He also enjoyed volunteering and helping with the daycare program with the Church. He was an avid gardener and was always proud of his tomatoes. Mr. Murdock proudly served in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and receiving the Purple Heart. He proudly retired from Western Electric in Burlington.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine "Gerri" Allison Murdock, of the home; daughter, Susan Allison Murdock Layton and husband Douglas, of Roxboro; grandchildren, Alexander "Al" Layton and wife Stephanie, of Haw River and Amber Cox and husband Adam, of Asheville, NC; great-grandchild, Alexandra Layton, of Haw River, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving brothers and sister. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at the Hawfields Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Ealy Officiating. Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery with military honors.
