Phyllis H. Cunningham of Clarks Summit passed away peacefully Thursday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. She was married to Dr. James J. Cunningham. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in August.

Phyllis was the daughter of the late Richard and Stella Lee Morano. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit and was a graduate of Dickson City High School. While in high school, she was selected to be on the Oppenheim's Scranton Dry Goods store teen council, where she modeled and advised on teen fashions. She followed her interest in fashion and went to work at Oppenheim's after her high school graduation. She became the buyer for ladies' ready-to-wear at age 20, the youngest buyer in the store's history. Following her marriage, she lived in New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia, before returning to the area in 1968. She resided in Roaring Brook Twp. for 31 years before moving to Clarks Summit in 1999.

Phyllis returned to work in 1979 after earning an associate degree from Misercordia College in Radiological Technology. She worked as a technologist at Pocono Hospital until her retirement in 1999.

Phyllis was loved by literally all who knew her for her warm, compassionate spirit, quick wit and unselfish attitude. In her work, her friendships and especially in her family, she brought joy and comfort to all she met.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mary Beth Becker of Drexel Hill; Kathleen Kotchick of Newtown Square; a son, James J. Cunningham of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Mary Kate Kotchick of New York, N.Y.; Emily Kotchick, a senior at the University of Scranton; Gregory Kotchick, a freshman at the University of Maryland; and Audrey Becker of Drexel Hill; a sister, Audrey Kman of Fairfield, Conn.; and four brothers, Tony of Washington, D.C.; Richard of Webster, N.Y.; Robert of Reistertown, Md.; and Greg of Scott Twp.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Mancia.

State St., Clarks Summit. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church on Tuesday morning.
