Joseph Elton Dennis, age 84, passed away on November 3, 2015. He was born on December 2, 1930 in North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Perkinson Dennis, his brother Melvin O’Neal Dennis and his parents Redger Wray and Lilla Dennis.
Joseph grew up in Durham, NC, lived much of his working life in Maryland and after retirement was a longtime resident of Walkerton, King and Queen County, VA. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. Joseph held multiple management positions with the Social Security Administration before his retirement. He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion. Joseph was proud to be a 32° Mason in Virginia and North Carolina. Throughout his life Joe enjoyed photography, gardening and travel.
Joe is survived by three nieces Myra G. Dennis, Anita D. Lommatzsch (Clint) and Tina D. Carroll (Al), as well as longtime friends William Foreman (Michelle) and Timothy Foreman (Heather).
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
