Edward Francis Mooney, 93, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 6:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Custer Senior Care in Custer, South Dakota. Edward was born on Saturday, November 5, 1921 in Alton, Illinois the son of the late John Joseph and Margaret (Fuchs) Mooney. He married Mary Ann Bund on January 9, 1943.
Surviving family members include his wife: Mary Ann Mooney of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughter: Carol Halverson and husband Chuck of Libertyville, Illinois; son: Michael Mooney and wife Sandra of Custer, South Dakota; 4 grandchildren: Monica Mooney-Denny and husband Les of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Leslie "Shelli" Mooney-Deglman, Teresa White and husband David of Boston, Massachusetts and Peter Halverson and wife Hillary of Grayslake, Illinois; 8 great grandchildren: Anthony, Austin and Iris Denny, Rebecka Deglman, Karen and Rachel White, Elsa and Stig Halverson; great great grandchild: Mitchell J. Deglman; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one brother: John "Jack" Mooney and one sister: Patricia Mooney preceded him in death.
Edward served our country in the United States Army serving from September 1, 1942 to November 6, 1945 during World War II. He worked as an installer for Illinois Bell Telephone in Mt. Vernon and was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was also involved with the Army Air Corps WWII Veterans, Army Air Corps Glee Club, the Mt. Vernon AMVETS Post #4, and the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141. Private family services will be held at a later date. McColley funeral home.
