Theda Jeanette Gifford, 94, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, April 19, 1999 at her home. Born July 17, 1904 in Altona, she lived in Linden and Gladwin before moving to Mundy Township four years ago.
She was a graduate of Lake City High School, earned a BA from Ferris State University, and a masters degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. Theda married Raleigh F. Gifford, Aug. 30 in Lucas County, Ohio. He preceded her in death, June 18, 1979. She taught elementary school in the Swartz Creek School District, where she was a specialist in remedial reading. Theda was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church and Wooden Shoe United Methodist Church in Gladwin. She was also a charter member of N.C.H.A. Tails-A-Wagon.
Surviving are two children, Janet and husband Frank Cox of Swartz Creek, and Larry and wife Dorothy Gifford of Ovid; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, two half-brothers, anda grandson, Nicholas Tewksbury.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at Swart Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor James Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris. Memorials may be made to Swartz Creek United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or Wooden Shoe United Methodist Church in Gladwin.
