F/O J M G Browne was killed. when his aircraft crashed and was written off on a night-flying practice sortie. It was the pilot's first experience of flying in blackout conditions on a very dark night. There are two possible explanations for the crash: either the aircraft stalled and the pilot tried to use the engine to recover from it, or he lost sight of the flare-path and lost height rapidly without realising. The aircraft was destroyed in the crash.
