The son of James and Eliza (Heberling) Ady of Ohio, and later Iowa, William D. Ady came to Long Beach, California, in 1916. He was a Civil War Veteran, Sergeant, Company H, 11th Iowa Infantry. He served several times between 1861 and 1865, having been wounded once near Atlanta, Georgia, in 1864. After the war, he was a farmer. Husband of Eleanor (Worrall) Ady, they were the parents of five children. He died in Long Beach, California, and he has grave markers in both Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Long Beach, alongside his wife Eleanor, and also in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty, Iowa.
