Jim was born in Akron, Ohio to Clifford Otis and Lula May Heaton on June 6, 1930. He was the youngest son of nine children. Jim attended East High School in Akron, Ohio, where he played football. After high school, Jim played semi-pro hockey for the Canadians. He loved sports and was also an avid fisherman.
Jim joined the Air Force and became a photolithographer, stationed at Ent Air Force Base in Colorado Springs (currently the Olympic Training Center). He met Doris Jane Morris and they married. After the Air Force he was employed as Regional Manager and Buyer for Brown Shoe Company of Ohio. The couple had three children, Mark, Jeffrey and Robin who also grew up in Akron, Ohio.
After thirty-five years in Ohio, Jim moved several times and was living in Florida when he met Mary Louise Owsley. They married and moved to Colorado. They enjoyed eighteen years of marriage and a large, happy extended family.
He is survived by his wife, and two sisters. He is also survived by his son, and Mary's children. Jim thought highly of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and said, "They are fantastic!" He was a true ambassador of love and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He joins his son, Mark Lewis Heaton and daughter, Robin Leslie Heaton, and grandson, Nathan Gerald Owsley in heaven and can most likely be found at the best fishing hole!
