Bernea Oakes Adams, 47, of Penhook, Snow Creek section of Franklin County, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at her home. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Dwayne Elmer; her father, Kelly Willard Oakes; and a niece, Kimberly Oakes. Surviving are her husband, Lester Wayne Adams; daughter, Shelley Renee Adams of the home; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Laverne O. and Euell Moran, Boones Mill, Sheree O. and Edward Lawrence, Melissia O. and Todd Dillon, all of Penhook; one niece, Tonya Lawrence; two nephews, Kelly Moran and Brad Dillon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buddy and Lucille Adams, Penhook; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Fred Elkins, Earlene and Ryland Bartee, William and Rhonda Jones, Gale and Dennis Pyrtle, all of the Danville area, Donnie Jones, Gary Adams, Debra Walker and friend, Ricky Matherly, all of Penhook, Rachel Hudson, Milton, N.C., Bill and Cindy Adams, Collinsville. Funeral services will be conducted from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 11 a.m. Thursday, with Rev. B. Glen Voss officiating. Interment will follow in the Snow Creek Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Snow Creek Rescue Squad, Route 2, Box 270-R, Penhook, Va. or to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel Road, Rocky Mount, Va.. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, S. Main St., Rocky Mount.
