Carl E. Faidley, 86, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday (February 17, 2016) at the South Central Kansas Medical Center. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday (February 22, 2016) at the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in the Springside Cemetery. Pastor Larry Cracraft will officiate.
Cremation has been effected.
Carl was born February 27, 1929, in Clay Center, to Alexander and Esther (Sanford) Faidley. He was reared and educated in Wakefield and Clay Center. He attended Sunny Slope country school and then graduated from Clay Center High School in 1946. He later attended Kansas State University graduating in 1951, with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was also active in the KSU ROTC program. Karl served in the United States Air Force. He was a 1st Lieutenant and served in Korea during the Korean War, and Wichita AFB (McConnell).
Carl married Dorothy VanSkike on May 22, 1955, in Arkansas City, at the Grandview United Methodist Church. He worked as the Pork Provisions Manager for Mauer-Neuer/Rodeo Meats/John Morrell Meat packing for a total of 37 years, before the plant closed in 1991. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Friendship Meals, Advisory Board of Presbyterian Manor and the Dick Metz Memorial Golf Tournament, Rotary Club, the Arkansas City Public Library Board, Habitat For Humanity, The Salvation Army Board and was a “Harry Long” Award recipient. Karl was a CornerBank “CornerStone” Award recipient and member of the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. He was also a member of the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 VFW and the Shelton -Beaty Post 18 American Legion. Karl was an avid Kansas State supporter.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home; sons David and wife Sally Faidley of Lynchburg, Virginia, Richard and wife Marcela Faidley of Austin, Texas; a daughter Mary and husband Mike Fleming of Green Bay, Wisconsin; brothers Don Faidley of Kansas City, Missouri, Paul and wife Ann Faidley of Desoto, Texas, Dean and wife Lola Faidley of Louisiana; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Faidley.
The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City or the Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
