Wayne Lee “Pete” Barton, age 73 of Fairmount (Rigdon), passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born May 24, 1942 in Muncie, the son of James M. & Ruth N. (Haskett) Barton. Pete was a truck driver for 40 years, and retired in 2012 from USF-Holland Company. He married Carolyn R. Jamison on November 11, 1961, and they shared over 54 years of marriage together. Pete and Carolyn have been very active in the Rigdon community, and Pete was a member of the Teamsters Union. Pete enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and riding all types of motorcycles. He was especially artistic, and enjoyed oil painting. He gave many of his paintings to family members, and they are treasured examples of his talent. Pete will be remembered for being a big kid at heart, and he loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pete’s family includes wife of 54 years, Carolyn R. Barton of Fairmount; 3 children, Doug (wife Debbie) Barton of Fairmount, Russell (wife Phyllis) Barton of Summitville, and Scotty Barton of Gaston; 6 siblings, Judy (husband Bud) Kreger of Florida, Marsha (husband Ronnie) Damron of Muncie, Lavella Reynolds of Muncie, Chuck Stoneburner of Muncie, Garland (wife Inez) Martin of Yorktown, and Elmer (wife Dinna) Reynolds of Ohio; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Garnet Cunningham, step-brother, Othie Reynolds; and step-mother, Evalee Barton.

Cremation will occur, and private burial of ashes will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood,
