Suzanne Smith Matthews, 48, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2006 after a short, hard fought battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Bedle, and is survived by two daughters, Jessica Matthews and Chyanne Ballard; her life partner, Charles Ballard, all of Roanoke; a sister, Elizabeth Binghan and her husband Martin, of Roanoke; a niece, Emily; a nephew, Riley; her very best friend, Tammy Smith; mother-in-law, Betty Overstreet, and a sister-in-law, Taylor Overstreet. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside, Coyner Springs Cemetery, at 2 p.m. Friday September 22, 2006, with the Rev. Ken Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
