Spc. Jared J. Raymond of Swampscott, Massachusetts was an only child and joined the Army in July of 2004 less than a month after his graduation from Swampscott High School. He served with the 1-66 Armored Division Battalion 1. The Raymond family attends St. John the Evangelist Church where Jared Raymond was an altar boy. Motivated by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He was deployed to Iraq on New Year's Day 2006 with the 166th Armored Division. He didn't complain about boot camp. He didn't complain about the 135-degree heat in Iraq. He was glad to do it because he thought it was the right thing to do. Jared craved excitement in all forms. He played baseball for the Swampscott Little League and basketball for the St. John the Evangelist Church CYO League. He was a camp counselor at Camp Rotary in Boxford. He had a love for cars and enjoyed spending time with friends and mostly enjoyed being around his family. He loved fast cars, yearned to buy a 1970 Chevelle SS and wanted to study criminal justice and eventually become a Boston cop. In addition to his mother, Jaclyn Raymond he leaves his maternal grandmother, Agnes J. Raymond, one uncle, James J. Raymond and his wife Suzanne; an aunt, Marcella Perotti and her husband, John P.; four cousins, Justin Mooers, John Perotti and Jeremy Perotti, and Jimmy Raymond; and two great-uncles Leo J. Powers and Jerry G. Powers. He was grandson of the late John F. Raymond. He was 20.
