Barbara Wolcott, 84-year-old Buffalo resident passed away quietly Saturday afternoon at the Johnson County Healthcare Center.
Barbara Ann Wolcott was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Edgerton to Peter and Naomi Meike. She grew up in Sussex and attended Sussex Elementary School. She attended high school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1949. After high school, she attended the University of Wyoming School of nursing for two years, where she was also a Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was married June 30, 1951, at the Meike Ranch in Sussex to H. Neil Wolcott, and they made their home in Champagne, Illinois, while Neil was in the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Aurora, Colorado, in 1954, while Neil was still in the military and following an honorable discharge in 1955, they moved to the Wolcott Family Ranch in Barnum. They sold the ranch in Barnum in the fall of 1973 and moved to Sheridan. In April 1986, they moved to the Meike Ranch in Sussex, and in 2006 they moved to Buffalo where they lived until her death.
Barb was a member of the Barnum Women’s Club and the Sheridan Women’s Club. She was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Powder River Grange. She loved working in her yard and won the Amie Holt beautiful garden award three years in a row. Barb’s passion was caring for anyone who needed help.
She is survived by her husband, Neil; three daughters, Kathy Woods and her husband Rick of Sheridan, Karen Davis and her husband Nolan of Mayoworth, and Lisa Damour and her husband Tom of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Don Meike and Pete Meike Jr., both of Sussex; two sisters, Emmy Koch and her husband Ken of Sussex and Helen Keeler and her husband Jerry of Casper; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Don and Doug; and one grandson, Danny Woods.
