Kathryn was the oldest daughter of 11 children. She graduated from Marietta High School then went to work at Woolworth’s. On October 5, 1940, in Marietta, she married Max Lee Ross who preceded her in death on September 18, 1993.
Max and Kathryn lived in Marietta and Eaton, IN before finally settling in Indianapolis, IN in 1963, where Max worked for 33 years at Buckeye Pipeline and Kathyrn was a homemaker. Kathryn enjoyed fishing and mushroom/ginseng hunting with her husband and also collecting coins and other memorabilia. She loved baking, cooking, gardening and taking care of her family. Some of the family’s fondest memories of Kathryn are the beautiful roses she grew (which is how she came to be known as The Rose Lady), the delicious pies she made and the crates of homemade, individually wrapped sugar cookies she baked and sent to her son and grandkids each Christmas and Valentines.
Kathryn is survived by their son, Richard Max (Phyllis) Ross of Kissimmee, FL; grandchildren: Robbin (Brian) Powers of Cedar Rapids, IA, Richard “Butch” (Dawn) Ross, Jr. of Melbourne, Australia, Renee Ross of Orlando, FL; great grandchildren: Meagan, Rachel, Jony, Shelby, Sydney and Max and great, great grandchildren: Noble, Alayna, Theoden, Audrey and Tre. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Louise Hockenberry, Florence Bartyczak, Louella Wilson and brothers Raymond Hiener and Walter Hiener Jr.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her sisters Helen Yost, Martha Hudnal, Margaret Groves and brothers Robert Hiener and Joseph Hiener.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (Feb. 20) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in East Lawn Memorial Park.
