Sara S. Barnes 75, of Estero, FL died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice. A former resident of Alexandria, VA, she had been wintering in Estero for the past 13 years and a resident for the past 6 years. She was born July 18, 1940 in Roanoke, VA a daughter of the late Andrew A. and Sara (née Dickerson) Steele.

She attended George Washington University and worked for the Virginia Episcopal Theological Seminary for 20 years as their Registrar retiring in 2002.

Sara attended the Hope United Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Donald R. Barnes of Estero, FL; one son, William Andrew Barnes and his wife, Samantha of Alexandria, VA; two daughters, Sara Elizabeth Maun and her husband, Matthew of Redstone, CO and Kathryn B. Snider and her husband, Jack, III of Alva, FL and eight grandchildren, Sara, Jack, Nick, Andy, Billy, Josie, Alex and Rosa.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Hope United Presbyterian Church 7470 Hickory Dr., Ft. Myers, FL with Pastor Kevin Morris, officiating.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sara’s name be made to the Interfaith Charities of South Lee 17592 Rockefeller Cr., Ft. Myers, FL 33967 or online at www.icslee.org.

Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
