Ella Irene (Meadows) Brooks, 86, died September 28, 2014 in Logan, Kansas. She was born October 13, 1926 in Depwade, Harleston, England, the daughter of Frank & Hilda Meadows. Irene met her husband-to-be while he was stationed in England during World War II. On January 1, 1944, she married Cecil Nate Brooks in Great Bromley, England. Irene & Cecil were the parents of four children. Following the Armistice Declaration Cecil & Irene moved their family, now with a young daughter, to the United States, where they settled in Logan, Kansas. Irene, more often called Rene’ by friends & family, completed the required course for U.S. citizenship and became a naturalized citizen during ceremonies at the Judicial District Court in Oberlin, Kansas on February 23, 1953. Rene’ worked in several businesses throughout her life, including Limes Sundries, Logan Manor, and Phillips County Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Theresa Withington; her husband, Cecil, on December 10, 1977; and two sisters, Hilda and Margaret.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS. Mrs. Brooks will lie in-state Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home in Phillipsburg. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Services.
