Searching parties working yesterday were unable to locate the body of Emory Shoemaker, 32, of Kannapolis, who is supposed to have drowned while trying to swim across an arm of High Rock lake, near Long's Ferry, Sunday afternoon.
With five other Kannapolis men, Shoemaker was having a party at the river when he announced a determination to swim across the water. Missing him later, the men crossed in a canoe but failed to locate him.
Relatives of Shoemaker include his mother, Mrs. H.R. Shoemaker; five sisters, Mrs. L.G. Malcomb, Mrs. Edwin James and Misses Myrtle, Margaret and Marybelle Shoemaker; and two brothers, Kenneth and Warren.
