Joyce Ilene (Stark) Paul February 23, 1934 February 12, 2016 Joyce Ilene (Stark) Paul, 81, of Silver Spring, Md., formerly of State College, went to rest peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring surrounded by her loving family. A retired teacher, she educated children in Texas, California, Kansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. She was an avid traveler, making her way to six continents and many memorable adventures, and was an active member of the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew in Silver Spring. Born in Fort Hill, on February 23, 1934, she was the daughter of Carl and Margaret Jean (Matthews) Stark, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married in Addison, on December 23, 1955, to Norman M. Paul, Jr. They had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1956. She and her husband lived in the Park Forest neighborhood of State College from 1998 to 2013, and were active members of Grace Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Scott (Ilisa Halpern) Paul and Kristen Paul, and four grandsons. Relatives and friends may call at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, 15300 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Md., Thursday, February 18 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., where funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
