Olivia Jane Taylor, 91, of Columbia, widow of James L. Taylor, passed away, Monday, February 15, 2016. Born in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie Eyre Newby.

During WWII, she was a secretary at International Harvester Company in Washington. In 1946, she married James Taylor and moved with him to various military posts. Jane taught kindergarten for 23 years at North Trenholm Baptist Church, during which time she graduated from the University of South Carolina, Magna Cum Laude, at age 50. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, water aerobics, and reading. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church for over 50 years and taught many different age groups in Sunday school.

Surviving her are sons, Thomas N. Taylor (Betty) of Houston, TX and William D. Taylor (Bettye) of Tuscaloosa, AL; and grandchildren, Jeanne, Chris, Kassie and Molly.

Funeral services will be 11 AM on Monday, February 22nd at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia. The family will receive friends starting at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel assisted the family.
