Margaret "Peggy" N. Hayden, 93, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2016 in Germantown, MD.

Born Margaret Emma Marie Nelson on February 1, 1923 in Oneonta, New York, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Emma Nelson.

Peggy grew up on a farm in Laurens, NY and was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College and did graduate work at Syracuse University.

On December 28, 1946 she married Francis Robert Hayden. He predeceased her in 2004. Eventually they settled in Fairmount, NY. Peggy taught kindergarten for 33 years with most of those being in the West Genesee School District. She was selected "District Teacher of the Year" in 1970.

After retiring in 1980, Peggy and Francis moved to Ocala, FL. They became members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Ocala where Peggy was an active volunteer for 30 years.

Surviving are her children, Ronald of New York, Gail of Germantown, MD, Joyce of Shutesbury, MA and Michael of Montague, MA; three granddaughters, Erin, Chloe, and Mahri; three sisters, Virginia, Agnes, and Ruth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that Peggy loved dearly.

Peggy was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald in 1957 and Stephen in 2008; six brothers, Jim, Robert, Leonard, Calvin, John, and Art and one sister Laura.

Inurnment will take place in the Laurens Village Cemetery in May.
