Joel Brantley Walker, age 74, of Trinity passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Walker was born in High Point, NC on November 13, 1941 to Charles and Mildred Thornburg Walker. He was retired from Dunbar and Smith Construction in High Point. Mr. Walker was also a farmer and enjoyed his show horses. He loved to fish and hold fish fries for his community. Mr. Walker was an active member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Walker.
He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Walker; daughters, Debbie K. White and husband Ruben of Trinity, Karen D. Walker of Sophia, Betsy B. Shilliday and husband Jim of Raleigh; son, Greg Bryant and fiancée Faith Martin of Trinity; grandchildren, Hattie Presnell, Amelia Schrimsher and husband Brad, Joel White and wife Morgan, Alisa White, Bradley White and wife Joy, Adam Bryant, Logan Bryant, McKenzie Shilliday, J.J. Shilliday, Aiden Shilliday; great grandchildren, Allie Schrimsher, Oliver White; sisters, Wanda Gurley and husband Ronald Lee of Sophia, Julia Nelson of Sophia; brother, Dwight Walker and wife Nancy of Trinity and his faithful canine companions, Cookie and Sandy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 213 Tabernacle Church Road Ext., Trinity with Pastor Lauren Anderson and Bill Stoneman officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
