David Mulford Terbell was born in Plattsburgh, New York on March 4,1849 and died at his son's home in New Sharon on June 18, 1930.

His mother died when he was about three years old, so in the formative period of his life he was deprived of a mother’s care. His father’s business called him away from home so much of the time that it became necessary to find homes for his three children elsewhere.

This son was placed in the home of an uncle. That was home for him for eleven years. He left the uncle’s in New York and for three years made his home with an uncle in Eau Claire, WI

Then another change and this time away from kindred and friends, he began alone. This was shortly before the civil war and he engaged as a cabin boy on a steamboat on the Mississippi River with headquarters in St.Louis.

He was married to Lydia Ann Templeton on March 3, 1873 in Woodhull, Illinois. He found employment there as a meat cutter with a prominent business man of that city.

In 1892 he came with his family to Bedford, Iowa. That was his home until 1913, when being incapacitated for his business because of a stroke of paralysis, he came to New Sharon where he received care and needed assistance by his sons Will and John and a daughter Gertie Roberts who have been a great help to her parents in their declining years. The mother died a few months ago.

David united with the Presbyterian church while living in Bedford. He was patient under trial, kind to all his friends and his three children and five grandchildren are left to mourn his departure.

The funeral services were held at the home of Mr Will Terbell. The Presbyterian choir furnished the music. Rev Everds and A B Cornell conducted the service.

The body was laid to rest in the West Liberty Cemetery by the side of his good wife.
