Colin Campbell started a horse sale business and livery with his cousin, Archie Campbell. He also farmed the land he owned and became an agent for The Imperial Oil Company.

In the 1920s, he owned a Buick dealership and worked as a grain buyer for James Richardson & Sons. In 1936, he bought Reston's Old Railway Roundhouse and established a retail and mail order seed business. The company operated until 1969.

He married Minnie McLandress Campbell (1886-1957) had the couple had three children:
1. Colin St. Clair Campbell (1907-1989)
2. Mildred Jean Campbell (1911-?, wife of Frank Mellor)
3. Helen Campbell (1903-1903).
