Francis Rawdon Hastings Campbell was born on 01 Apr 1798, at Connor near Belfast, son of Archibald Campbell and Elizabeth nee Young.
The family moved to Montgarswood, Ayrshire after the Wolf Tone uprising.
Francis graduated as a doctor of medicine with a Diploma of Surgery LRCS Edinburgh in 1829.
Francis married Selina Porter 08 Dec 1829 at Bloomsbury, London, England.
The family emigrated to Australia in 1839 on the Christina.
Dr Campbell set up practice at East Maitland NSW and resided at Gresford.
He was then elected as Medical Superintendant at the Tarban Creek Mental Asylum in 1848.
He was a well known contributor to the Medical Journal, and other colonial publications.
He served on Hunter's Hill Council after his retirement from his duties as Medical Superintendant.
He and Selina had 6 sons and 7 daughters.
