Joann Marie Abell Hays, 84, of Harrisburg, passed away on Monday, February 08, 2016 at the Wellington Place of Greenville in Greeneville, TN. Joann was born on February 15, 1931 in Ridgway, IL to the late James Joseph Abell and Leona Frances. On June 28, 1958 she married Robert Joe Hays and he preceded her in death on October 19, 2012. She was a retired school teacher and Catholic by faith. Surviving family members include her daughter: Karen Bradley and husband Bob of Greeneville, TN; two grandsons: Hays Culbreth and Bert Bradley of Greeneville, TN; sister: Donna Koester of Ridgway, IL; brother: Dave Abell and wife Linda of Pana, IL; brother: Raymond Abell and wife Marge of Georgia; sister: Janet O’Leary and husband Pat of California; several nieces and nephews. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Mary Neumann, Rita Armstrong and Doris Pickering and two brothers, Mike Abell and Bill Abell. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Monsignor Joseph Lawler will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 2 PM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisburg Medical Center Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
