Gene Robinson died at the age of 87.
He was a native of Horse Creek, Kentucky.
He was the co-founder and former CEO of Food Fair, Inc. He was also co-owner of First Radio station, Fast Chek convenient stores, Discount Cigarette Stores, Britthaven Nursing Home, and Furniture Fair. He was a part of a group that were the first contributors of Somerset Community College. He was one of the original organizers of the local YMCA. He was a member of the Olekia Shriners, Jaycees, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Somerset First Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife, Ruth Jean (Elliott) Robinson; his son, Ron Robinson of Lexington, Kentucky; his daughters, Debbie (Robinson) Hertzer (and Chuck) of Somerset, Kentucky and Mitzi Robinson of Somerset, Kentucky; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his brother, Don Robinson of Corbin, Kentucky; his sister, Barbara Hodge of Georgetown, Kentucky; a nephew; and two nieces.
Visitation was on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Somerset. A celebration honoring the life of Mr. Robinson was held following the visitation with Dr. French Harmon officiating.
Interment was at Mill Springs National Cemetery with honors by American Legion Post #38.
Somerset Undertaking and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
