Radio executive. Paul Morency was associated with WTIC Radio and TV for more than 40 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War I, he spent a brief time in the advertising department of the Chicago Evening American before a four-year stint as manager of field services for the National Association of Broadcasters. He was named general manager of WTIC Radio in December 1929 and was considered an invaluable asset to the station during its transition to commercial operation. He became WTIC's first president and during his career WTIC launched its FM station (1939) and its television station (1957). In an official greeting to viewers, he was the first individual to appear on camera at WTIC TV. In 1951, Variety magazine named him "Showmanager of the Year." He retired as president of Broadcast Plaza Inc., the combined WTIC TV and radio operation, in 1967.
