Longtime local resident Margaret Amelia Thoren, 100, died May 25, 2002, at a local nursing home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1902, in Decatur County, Iowa, to Andrew and Della Mae (Elliott) McCarthy. She moved to the local area from Iowa 50 years ago.
Mrs. Thoren had a great love for animals and cared for many over the years.
Her husband, Bertil Thoren, died in 1963.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Fitch of Altoona, Iowa [1925-2005], and Forrest Fitch of Baltimore [1924-2002]; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Longview Memorial Park under the direction of Steele Chapel.
