United States Supreme Court Associate Justice. He served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1986 until his death. His father immigrated from Sicily, his mother was a first generation Italian-American, young Antonin was influenced by his father's conservative views which shaped the young man's way of thinking throughout his life. Raised in Queens, New York City, New York, in a diverse neighborhood, he attended Xavier High School, a military institution operated by the Catholic Church. He attained a Bachelors degree in History from Georgetown University and went on to earn his law degree from Harvard Law School. He initiated his law career with a Cleveland, Ohio-based firm and served as a professor with the University of Virginia Law School. His prominence on the national level began, when President Nixon appointed him general counsel for the Office of Telecommunications Policy in 1972. In 1974, he served under President Gerald R. Ford as the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Council. In 1982, he was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. During his tenure on the high court, he voted on cases which would shape the course of American History including "Bush vs Gore" (he voted in favor of President George W. Bush) which decided the 2000 Presidential Election and same-sex marriage (which he opposed) in 2015.
