Johnnie Francis Richard 87 of Parma passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016. Johnnie was born in Sabetha, Kansas on November 6, 1928 the eldest son of Perle and Florence Richard. He traveled with his family to Nyssa, Oregon in November 1935. They lived in Oregon until 1943, when the family purchased their own farm in Parma, Idaho.
Johnnie entered the Armed Forces on July 29, 1948. He was stationed on a US Air Force Base near Fukuoka, in the Kyushu Province of Japan. There he worked as a chef where he received praise for his ability to make food taste like it was prepared by a professional. He served his time there, where he met his wife, and in Okinawa, Japan.
After his deployment to Japan, he, his wife and first daughter returned to the US where he was honorably discharged from the military on June 4, 1952.
Johnnie and his family settled in Parma, Idaho where he and Yoshiko (Joyce) remained throughout their lives. Johnnie worked at the Amalgamated Sugar Factory in Nyssa, Oregon for 49 years. In addition, he farmed and managed the family dairy. He also did long-haul truck driving and worked for the State of Idaho. But his favorite job was custom farming in his later years, retiring in 2008 at the age of 80.
Johnnie’s greatest joy was his family. Nothing made him happier than to see all the kids gather around his dinner table. After the loss of his wife, Johnnie moved to Boise in 2014. He passed away after a very short illness on January 9, 2016 with his children and grandchildren at his side.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yoshiko Richard, his parents, Perle and Florence Richard of Parma, ID and his two brothers, Nolan Richard of Lynnwood, WA and Kenneth Richard of Parma, ID.
Johnnie is survived by his children; Mike (Vickey) Richard of Parma, Pam (Al) Stanley, Yvonne (Steve) Taylor and Zelma Wells all of Boise. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 11am at the New Life Christian Church, 404 N 3rd St, Nyssa, Oregon with a graveside service to follow at Lower Boise Cemetery in Parma. Services are under the direction of the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Payette.
