After immigrating to New York, he married Julia McCullagh, she had attended school where he did in Ireland, and was friends with his sister Mary. He worked as a groom for August Belmont on Long Island, then moved his family to Detroit where he continued work there for Mr. Belmont as a chauffeur.
James and Julia had five children, James Jr., 1901, who died at age thirteen, William born/died Mar 30 1903,Julianna, 1904-1995, who became a Roman Catholic nun, Francis, 1907-1992, a realtor and Leo, 1910-1980 who owned and operated a printing company.
