Virginia held a BS in Art Design and a BS in Occupational Therapy from Texas Womens University and a MA in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California. She entered the Army in 1951 and worked in Occupational Therapy in El Paso, Valley Forge, Seattle, Denver, and San Antonio, as well as Japan and Germany.

Virginia's love of horses began when she was a child and continued until her death. Her one remaining horse, Teddy, survives. Virginia loved the outdoors and hiking and she was a Master Gardener. She loved art and museums and she loved music, especially The Tuesday Musical Club and singing in the choir of the Church of the Resurrection Episcopal, San Antonio.

Virginia was predeceased by her mother Helene Alice May Barr, her father Edward Harris Barr, her "Moms" Lillian Barr (stepmother), her sister Agnes Rutherfold Barr Corbell, her brother Edward Harris (Bud) Barr, and her dear friend (family) Katye J. Duderstadt.

Included among her much loved friends are Elinor and Bob Duff, Joan Blanchard, Francine Dismukes, Malen Dell, Dr. Robert Ball D.V.M. and wife Debbie, Sharon Kraemer, and David Veltri. Also, her friends at the Army Retirement Center (the ARC) on Churubusco Drive, the nurses and staff at the ARC Assisted Living, the ARC Physical and Occupational Therapy Department, and the outstanding people of the ARC Companion Service including Louis, Gilmarie, Raena, JoAnn, and Joette. Also, the wonderful people of the UHS Peritoneal Dialysis Department: Dr. Shweta Bansal, Medical Director, and nurses Ray and Tracey.

In keeping with her wishes, Virginia's body was cremated and her ashes interred in the Zey - Duderstadt family plot, Greenwood Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Texas.
