Son of Matthew Wallace Hinkle (1868-1948) & Mary Elizabeth-Bane-Hinkle (1858-1950).

Brother of Hallie G. Hinkle-Rowe (1893-1984), Walter Otway Hinkle (1895-1981), Hettie L. Hinkle (1898-1975), & Unnamed Infant Hinkle (1900-1900).

Ashby Hinkle was a brakeman on a N&W Railroad train. He died at age 44 from traumatic shock following his severed legs (per WV Death Certificate #9357).

Railroad Man Is Dead In Mishap Injuries

WELCH. Aug. 6, 1934 — Injured in a railway accident, A.L Hinkle, 43, of Williamson, a brakeman for the Norfolk and Western railway, died in a hospital today. Hinkle lost both legs Sunday night when he attempted to throw a switch in the Eckman yards to derail a boxcar, and fell under its wheels. His widow and three children survive (per Charleston Gazette on Aug 7, 1934 Page 5).
