Former Local Woman Dies at Hickory Ridge
Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell Expires After Illness of Several Weeks
Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, 70, for many years a well known resident of Shamokin, died early Saturday afternoon at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas, at Hickory Ridge, where she had been ill several weeks.
The death of Mrs. Campbell is the third within her immediate family since last September, when a brother, Phillip Bubb, died at Sunbury and was followed in February by the death of a sister, Mrs. H.F. Lentz, also of Sunbury.
Elizabeth, daughter of the late Isaac and Elizabeth (Leitzel) Bubb, was born in Dalmatia, and as a young woman became the wife of John H. M. Campbell, who preceded her in death 21 years ago. The couple took up their residence here immediately after marriage and for many years Mrs. Campbell resided on East Cameron Street. It was when her health failed she changed residence to the home of her daughter at Hickory Ridge.
Mrs. Campbell was an active member of First United Brethren Church during her long residence here and was a member of Naomi Tribe, Daughters of Pocahontas.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Robert Thomas, wife of a former Shamokin patrolman, Albert Campbell and Philip Waite, all of Hickory Ridge, and one brother, Milton Bubb, of Sunbury.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, with brief services at 1:30 in the Thomas home to be followed with major services in First United Brethren Church here. Rev. O.L. Mease will officiate and burial will be in Shamokin Cemetery.
