SOUTH BEND - Franklin “Frank” D. Albert, 83 of South Bend passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in his home after a sudden illness with his wife, Kay by his side.

Frank was born in LaPaz, IN on December 25, 1932 to the late Clayton F. and Mary L. (Morgan) Albert.

On October 6, 1956, in South Bend he married Maxine M. (Miller) Albert who preceded him in death on August 29, 1995.

Frank married Kay E. (Ross) Albert on September 14, 2002 in South Bend who survives, along with his son, Timothy E. (Irene) Albert, of South Bend, step-daughter, Vickie E. Connon of South Bend, step-sons, Scott E. (Christine) LePla of Elkhart and Stephen R. LePla of South Bend. Also surviving are their grandchildren Nicole (Micah) Haubold, Breanna LePla, Crystal Albert, Justin LePla, Cameron Albert and Emily LePla and great-grandchildren Megan, Jacob and Malachi. Frank is also survived by his sister Sally (Art) Poeske of Gilbert, AZ and brothers, John V. (Dorothy) Albert of Indianapolis, IN and Frederick Z. Albert of Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his brother, Evan Albert in 2005.

Frank was a hands on guy who truly loved woodworking, farming, gardening and being with family and friends. He retired from Country Gardens on U.S. 31 South after 20 years of service helping others with their choice of trees, flowers and information on how to take care of the plants they were buying.

He was a Charter Member of the Greene Twp. Lions Club and enjoyed helping with the eye bank and the trips to help others here and overseas.

Frank was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Friends may call Sunday, February 14th from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Hanley & Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at West Ireland Road/State Road 23, South Bend. Services will be held Monday, February 15th at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Van Houten officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Greene Twp. Lions Club c/o Rich Holm, 62187 Pine Road, North Liberty, IN 46554 or Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Road, North Liberty, IN 46554.
