Rose Bearer Ellis, 87, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late John K. Ellis Sr.; mother of J. Keefe Ellis Jr. (Stacy), Peter Ellis, M.D., and Connie Heppenstall (Mark); sister of Grace Rhody, of Patton, Pa., Helen Hahn, of Carson City, Nev., the late Mary Mullen, Mildred Robine, Nelda Carl, Winifred Leap, Joseph Bearer and John Bearer. Rose is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Emily, Jake, Caroline and Patrick Ellis, Andrew, Peter and Thad Ellis and Mary, Kyle and Charlie Heppenstall; as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose graduated from the nurse's training program at Mercy Hospital in 1948, where she worked as a pediatric nurse until she met her beloved husband of 51 years, John K. "Jack" Ellis, whom she married in 1954.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. A member of the St. Bede Parish in Point Breeze for 60 years, she sang in the church choir and was a devoted attendee of the 7 a.m. daily Mass. In addition to her involvement with and devotion to St. Bede, Rose volunteered for many years at the Vintage Senior Center in Highland Park. She will be sorely missed but forever remembered for her beautiful smile, piercing blue eyes, kind words and gentle heart.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, in St. Bede Church.
