After he left the Navy, Bob enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a BS in Geology in 1948, followed by an MS in Geology in 1949. He then went to work as a petroleum geologist for Texaco in Wichita, Kansas. After 10 years, Bob left Texaco and moved to Norman to work as an independent geologist.
