Elizabeth Colston
MARCH 3, 1923 – JULY 19, 2011

Obituary of Elizabeth Colston
Helen Crowe Hammond Colston, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011.
Mrs. Colston was born March 3, 1923 to the late Joel Allen Crowe and Myrtice McHugh Crowe, and was preceded in death by a twin sister, Ellen Crowe Hammond. She was first married to Johnny Francis Hammond and later to Roy Wayne Colston, both who predeceased her. She retired from federal service in 1990 as Housing Manager, Chase Field Naval Air Station, Beeville, TX. Mrs. Colston was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Patricia Hammond Thomas of Watkinsville; grandson, Joel Thomas and his wife, Traci of Norcross, GA. In addition, a special niece, Dr. Deborah Hammond Budge, her husband, Arthur, and children, Ashley Atkins, Neal Budge, and Katie Budge all of Dallas, TX. Also a special nephew, Col. Harvey L. Hammond, Jr., USAF (Ret.) and his wife, Pam, and their children, Lindsey Hammond and Kevin Hammond all of Yorktown, VA. Other survivors include loving cousins, nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Delano (Sheryl) Colston of Jasper, GA, Ralph (Joyce) Colston of Adairsville, GA, and sisters-in-law, Dot Cash (Amos) and Linda Bailey all of Adairsville, GA.

Funeral services will be held 10AM Friday, July 22nd in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Dr. Frank Granger officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-9PM Thursday, July 21st at Bernstein.

The family would life to extend their gratitude to the staff members of Silverleaf Alzheimers Care of Athens and Odyssey Healthcare (Hospice) for the care provided during Helen's illness. Her devoted caregiver, Tracie Fowler, patiently provided compassion and care to Helen for over five years.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Athens, 355 Pulaski St, Athens, GA 30601.
