PEORIA - Robert Lee Blackford 83, of Peoria, Ill, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Riverview Rehabilitation Home of East Peoria.
He was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Peoria, IL to Arthur and Vivian (Sheeley) Blackford. Robert married Virgina Eddleman on May 5, 1956.
Surviving are his two sons, David (Vickie) Blackford of East Peoria, IL and Allan (Francie) Blackford of Ozark, Mo.; and three grandsons, Kevin, David and Dustin,and granddaughter Jordan.
Robert was preceded in death his parents, his brother Richard Blackford, and just 12 days prior by his wife Virginia.
Raised in Peoria, after attending Woodford High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Robert served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Boxer during the Korean War,
completing two tours in the far east.
He eventually wound up being stationed in Millington, TN. where he would ultimately meet his soon to be wife Virginia. After only 3 months of courtship, the two married.
After a time, the two moved to Robert’s home town of Peoria. He retired from Seneca Petroleum Company after 35 plus years as an Operating Engineer. Robert enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with family.
Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 12 – 1 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery.
